Hi Ichabod Family! I hope this message finds you safe and in good health. My name is Paige Robbins and I am a freshman outfielder for the Washburn softball team. I am from Overland Park, KS and graduated from Blue Valley. I am majoring in Nursing and hope to eventually become a Nurse Practitioner. I grew up around parents and family members who are all in professions helping and serving others, so I cannot wait to join the family “business.”
Life Changes:
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, I had no idea that it would end up shutting down everything. I thought we would still be able to finish out the semester and our season, just a little “bump” in the road. However, as we know, this was not the case. I never imagined that my first season would end this way, but I am so thankful for the memories we did make. While it may be hard to believe, I miss the early morning weights and late nights cleaning the field like crazy. I have moved back home for the time being, and I am trying to keep life as normal as possible. While it is strange not being able to leave the house, I know that it is for the best. Aside from spending time keeping up with my classes, I have found enjoyment in exercising, doing puzzles with my mom, baking and cooking new recipes, walking my dogs, and watching lots of Netflix. On the softball side of things, my mom has been a champ putting softballs on a tee for me to hit in my basement. Hopefully, we will be able to transition onto a field in the near future.
Personal Reflection:
Throughout this unprecedented time, I have learned to appreciate the little things and to cherish the little moments. In just a few short years I will be out living on my own, and I won’t have my mom to make dinner for me or my dad to teach me how to fix things around the house. While I have never taken these things for granted, I now spend a little extra time asking my mom where she learned to make certain meals or asking my dad why something works the way it does. In times like this, it is important to cherish all that you have, so soaking up these types of moments has been a silver lining in being forced to stay at home.
We will all be together again soon, and I am anxiously awaiting the time when that comes. Until then, stay healthy, stay safe, and as always, Go Bods!
Best of luck Paige when you can get back on the field. You are going to do great things at Washburn during your time there. Keep your head down and continue to work as hard as you always have. Take care, Coach White
