Who is Raegen Hamm?
Hello Ichabod family! I am Raegen Hamm and I am a junior pitcher in the softball program at Washburn. I am currently in the Radiologic Technology program. After I complete the program in the spring of 2021, I will continue school and get my certificate in diagnostic medical sonography while completing my bachelor’s degree. I have always wanted to do ultrasound and radiologic technology was a step in the process.

Life Changes
At the beginning of the COVID-19 shutdown, I was still in shock that our season had been cancelled. I never imagined how much I would miss those morning weights workouts and the long hours at the field. I am getting a small taste of what it will be like to graduate, and I can promise you I will take it all in and enjoy every minute that I have left playing softball from here on out. The thrill of seeing my teammates get the perfect hit or the feeling of striking someone out is what I live for.  I have since moved home to my parents’ house and have continued to do my schoolwork and workouts. Although we cannot have team practices, I have found time to do some one-on-one lessons with some younger kids, being socially distanced of course! Between lessons and schoolwork, my days seem to be filled for the most part. For the radiology tech program, we complete several hours of clinical each week. Due to the virus, they have removed all students from hospitals. At this time, we do not know when we will be allowed to return. This means that I have plenty of time to focus on my schoolwork which I have plenty of! In any other time off I have, I have attempted to repurpose a dresser and do some paint-by-number canvases, which I love.

Personal Reflection
Throughout this unprecedented time, I have been able to appreciate the things that I usually take for granted. The simple things in life, such as doing yard work with my dad and painting with my mom, are things that I would not have appreciated as much. I also have gotten to experience how much things that I decide to do, affect those around me. In healthcare, we learn how viruses, such as coronavirus, spread. It hasn’t been until now that I have truly seen the way it works. It is truly a time of learning and experiencing things that we will possibly never experience again. Although this time is something that has been very negative in the media, and truly does have a very negative side to it, I choose to look at it as a chance to learn. I can learn many different lessons, such as appreciating my education and in person classes, technology that allows me to continue my classes, nature and its beauty, and time spent with family without any plans to rush off to. After these times come and go, I hope that I continue to appreciate the things which I am learning to appreciate now. Soon we will be reunited as Ichabods and I am overly excited to see everyone. Until then, stay safe, stay healthy, and SKO’ BODS!
